[Photo by Jiang Dong/China Daily]Ever since Monkey King: Hero Is Back became the highest-grossing domestic animated film of all time, Chinas leading studios are looking overseas for manpower to ride the wave. Xu Fan reports.Huayi Brothers, one of Chinas most successful studios last year, has also joined the rush to recruit Hollywood talent. At a recent event, the studio said that its newly launched animation subsidiary had hired veteran animators from the United States. Its wholly owned unit, Huayi Brothers Win Animation, has appointed DreamWorks Animations former executive Joe Aguilar as its chief executive officer. In addition, Markus Manninen, a visual effects veteran who was behind Oscar-nominated Kung Fu Panda, has been hired as the firms art director.Wang Zhonglei, the president of Huayi Brothers, says that globalization of the movie industry has pushed the studio to seek world-class talent and companies.Win Animation plans to make four animated movies every year and the first one will be released across the country in 2017.Aguilar says the movies will have a global appeal.Though details are yet to be released, Aguilar says Win Animations first title is an animated sci-fi action feature, supervised by Kung Fu Panda 3s Chinese director, Teng Huatao.Wang says the North American market shows that animated films attract audiences more easily regardless of culture or age, and there is a greater possibility of the movies developing into long-running franchises.Previous Page1 2 3 Next PagePrevious Page1 2 3 Next Page8.03KRelated ArticlesDirectors Guild Award sees more young facesWoody Allens movie to open 69th CannesZootopia sloth, foxes shoot to stardom in ChinaA year of triumph for Chinese filmmakersHomegrown films aiming to match Hollywood in visual effectsTagsHollywood film studio animationPhotoContestants participate in tea contest in SW ChinaDrama Dream of Maritime Silk Road performed in MalaysiaStolen Buddha statue head arrives in Hebei museumEgyptian dance wows Ningxia audienceFashion show and exhibition mark China-Egypt cultural year in EgyptCuban dance troupe visits Great WallArtFilmCelebrityFashionFoodTravelBeijing biennale to show artworks on Silk RoadSpring Equinox dance festival is coming to BeijingAi Jings tangible expressions in new solo art showBeijing now on global music map with Rubinstein contestDancing to a Cuban beat in the shadow of the Great WallTreats from city of canalsShow creates possibility of career options for localsPink fish makes a splash in ancient townWater town dreams of being art hubTailor-made clay dolls presented at studio in ChangchunGiant pink Floating Fish displayed in East China3-day Art Basel attracts crowds in S ChinaAsian academy members protest Oscars Asian jokes2016 Canadian Screen Awards held in TorontoBatman v Superman rules Chinas box officeInternet giants in scramble to grab space on big screenHuayi Brothers seeks talent from HollywoodCBS to feature first mainland actor in TV showHow can a South Korean soap opera be this popular in China?Huang Lei to star in Midnight DinerDirectors Guild Award sees more young facesWoody Allens movie to open 69th CannesPopular Korean TV series draws online paying usersChinese TV dramas and movies thrill VietnameseBaby dressed as Fan Bingbing goes viral onlineSweet Angelababy poses for LOfficiel magazineNewlywed Liu Shishi poses for photosActress Yao Chen graces fashion magazineWang Ou takes street shots in ParisChinese TV host Sa Beining marries Canadian celebrityMilk Tea Sister gives birth to baby girl50-year-old Carina Lau shinesInternet stardom brings fast fortuneLin Yun poses for fashion shotNatalie Portman to attend Beijing International Film FestivalSophie Marceau goes square dancing in GuangzhouChildrens Wear Collection presented during China Fashion WeekHighlights of Tokyo Fashion WeekHighlights of 24th China Intl Young Fashion Designers Contest1980s glam makes a Paris comeback as Chanel stays classyChina Super Model Contest held in BeijingLin Yun poses for fashion shots3D printed collection presented during Toronto Fashion WeekBIFT fashion week ends in BeijingLatest beauty meme clinches China at the waistModels show creations at fashion week of institute in BeijingBeijing Institute of Fashion Technology Fashion week kicks off96-year-old veteran becomes fashion iconWhite strawberry a new hit in ‪ChinaIn pics: 1985 edition of A Bite of ChinaCan you try this?
