Lippi chose to retreat to behind the scenes in November instead of lingering in the head coach position that he had excelled at after taking the club to four straight Chinese Super League titles and Asian Champions League title.The Italian may have learned a lesson from his experience of leading Italy in two consecutive World Cup campaigns to vastly different results. Lippis men lifted the trophy in the 2006 Germany World Cup, but the same group was nearly sent home straight after group stage four years later in South Africa.With the precedent, Lippi found a way in between that can both shield him away from direct responsibility and maintain his influence at the club. He became the technical director and had his former protégé Fabio Canavarro take over as the head coach.8.03KPhotoPyeongchang Winter Olympics torch relay kicks offTokyo marks 1,000 days until 2020 Olympic GamesFed Express eclipses his old foe Rafa againChinese sprinter Su Bingtian and wife hold wedding ceremony in hometownLi Na tastes local delicacy during WTA Wuhan OpenPlayer party held for 2017 WTA Wuhan OpenMost PopularWhats HotYear-ender: For soccer, an era ends in 2014HighlightsLeBron James, Steph Curry lead NBA All-Star votingLeBron enjoys Christmas homecoming tourNominees for sports personality awards announcedTable tennis veteran Wang Hao retiresSpecialLi Na retires from tennis17th Asian GamesUS OpenNanjing Youth Olympics…| About China Daily | Advertise on Site | Contact Us | Job Offer | Expat Employment |Copyright 1995 -var oTime = new Date();
