Updated:2016-04-14 17:12:21Comments Print Mail Large Medium Small[Photo by Zhen Huai/Asianewsphoto]Chinas online travel firm Tuniu is seeking to increase its outbound travel offerings to carve out a place of its own following the merger of bigger rivals Ctrip and Qunar last year. While a partnership between industry leaders Ctrip and Qunar has put a bitter pricing war to end and raises prospects for improved margins going forward, smaller players like Tuniu have been ramping up investment, especially in outbound travel offerings, to distinguish itself from its bigger rivals.Despite seeing its shares, listed on the NASDAQ, halved from its all-time-high of 24 US dollars since late 2014, the company, which is based in the Eastern Chinese city Nanjing, has made aggressive investments in expanding overseas travel offerings and improving on-the-ground services at destinations popular with Chinese.Such investment has pushed Tunius gross margin down further to 4.8 percent in 2015 from 6.4 a year earlier, compared with 72 percent for Ctrip and 65 percent for Qunar during the same period. The companys chief operating officer and co-founder Alex Yan said such investment is necessary to prepare the firm to capitalize on Chinas 120 million outbound travelers, the worlds largest, and also the biggest spenders overseas.”As per capita GDP continues to grow in China, the outbound travel boom will be a rewarding business worthy of our investment.” Yan said this week on the sidelines of a travel expo in Beijing.
He added that such expenditures are expected to be capped below last years level and become more efficient.Previous Page1 2 3 Next PagePrevious Page1 2 3 Next Page0Related ArticlesTuniu teams up with Capital Airlines for dealsChinas online travel service provider Tuniu debuts at NasdaqSteam train in Southwest China keeps operation, boosts tourismTongren taps tourism for growth and poverty reductionShanxi tourism is springing into blossomTagsTuniu online travelPhotoShanghai Fashion Week: Gao Feng, Yoshitaka AmanoRising star Zhang Tianai poses for photosKate Middletons Asian-inspired wardrobe in IndiaCreations staged at Shanghai Fashion WeekZhang Yuqi in chic spring outfitsFans line up in Shanghai to pose with postbox touched by pop starArtFilmCelebrityFashionFoodTravelZhouzhuang water town viewed through artistic eyesBeijing biennale to show artworks on Silk RoadBeijing Hutongs revived in watercolorsArtistic designs on umbrellas brighten up rainy daysVirtual reality to guide visitors to Picassos world in BeijingChen Wenling: Creating a new spring by sculpturesPainter asks people to probe his mindClaude Monets creations displayed through multimedia in ChengduCartoon and animation show held in YinchuanAustralians get insight into Chinas golden age through Tang Dynasty treasuresChinese and foreign artists shine light on gender targets in conflictExhibition presents art and history of MaltaBIFF organizer: Chinas film market is bloomingScriptwriters get unique forum to pitch ideas to financiersMonkey King tests Russian market as Chinese films go abroadWhat made Master In Forbidden City documentary a success?China helps drive global movie earnings to recordDaniel Radcliffe returns to New York stage in PrivacyFrench Film Panorama to open in BeijingProject to record family history picking up steam with youthChow Yun-fat returns to thriller genreInternet giants train sights on aspiring directors to up gainsA new spin: The Huntsman: Winters WarZootopia boosts demand for fox as petsActress Zhang Ziyi celebrates 100th day of her daughterBaby dressed as Fan Bingbing goes viral onlineDaniel Radcliffe returns to New York stage in PrivacyRising star Zhang Tianai poses for photosZhang Yuqi in chic spring outfitsFans line up in Shanghai to pose with postbox touched by pop starAnne Hathaway welcomes baby boyCoco Lee wins I Am A Singer Season 4Tina Tang graces fashion magazineZhang Yimou wins lawsuit over film proceedsYuan Shanshan poses for fashion shotsJanine Chang shows her sporty sideKate Middletons Asian-inspired wardrobe in IndiaFashion icon Ni Nis fresh styleTextile expositions to be held in coastal ShishiShanghai Fashion Week: Gao Feng, Yoshitaka AmanoCreations staged at Shanghai Fashion WeekZhu Chongyun Autumn/Winter collectionTina Tang graces fashion magazineFashion briefFormer basketball player shows shoes at London Fashion WeekFinding fashion onlineYuan Shanshan poses for fashion shotsModels present creations during Tbilisi Fashion WeekWhite strawberry a new hit in ‪ChinaIn pics: 1985 edition of A Bite of ChinaChinas soybean products imports hit 81.7 million tonnesFine cuisine cooking contest held in GansuCrawfish, prawns provide sizzle for food festFirst official Hello Kitty restaurant opens in ShanghaiA lovely way to eat salmonChile serving up more tastes of the sea in ChinaLast call on the fish pierHotel bistro offers high tea for springTea making in C Chinas HubeiEat beatWorld tourist spot Basum Lake in TibetAlmond flowers bloom in XinjiangGlimpses of Lhasas holiday seasonTop 10 destinations for female travelersTop 10 seldom-seen views around the worldQuanzhou charmsYunnan, a travel heavenCity of SpringsMorning sun showers snow-covered Great WallMixing old with new in central Vietnam2013 Top 10 Tourism DestinationsEditors PicksStars call for thorough investigation into vaccine scandalLatest beauty meme clinches China at the waistAsian academy members protest Oscars Asian jokesSpecial report: Rise and rise of Chinas outbound tourismHot wordsJia ZhangkeHan HanGossipTiny TimesOscars red carpet ReganmianNanluoguxiangTeaShirley TempleLeonardo DiCaprioVideoLiyuan style: A symbol of elegance and graceChris back up on Where Are We Going, Dad?Easy Talk Special: A world of magicColumnsRaymond Zhou:X-RayPauline D Loh:
